Acne Home Remedies

There are probably as many acne home remedies as there are over-the-counter products, but for now I'll be looking at three of the most popular.

Amongst the many home remedies for acne, three that are very popular and show positive results are honey, tea tree oil, and humble vinegar.

Home remedies will not cure your acne!

They have been concocted over generations, to provide some relief, which does help. For mild to moderate acne, some of these are worth trying.

If anything, acne home remedies are just as effective as most over-the-counter medications on offer, and are certainly a much cheaper option.

Treating Acne With Honey .....

The video shows how the honey should be applied, but what it doesn't tell you is that it's much more effective if you use natural honey as opposed to processed. Manuka honey will produce the best results, so even though it's a lot more expensive than regular honey, it's worth the extra money.

When making honey masks, most people tend to mix the honey with one of many different things, including cinnamon, garlic, ginger and lemmon.

There are no set rules here, just mix with your personal preference, as long as it's something that's good for the skin. Buy your honey from a natural health shop, don't use honey from the supermarket. When honey is processed it loses some of it's anti-bacterial and anti-inflamatory qualities.

Like most other things it won't work on all skin types. If you have oily or sensitive skin, it could make the condition worse. On normal skin types it can produce good results for light to moderate acne, but it won't work for cases of severe acne.

Honey contains natural ingredients that help kill off the bacteria that cause acne, that's why it's one of the more popular acne home remedies.

Treating Acne With Tea Tree Oil .....

Another of the more popular acne home remedies is tea tree oil. Like honey, tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic that can help kill acne bacteria.

You can buy creams on the market that contain tea tree oil as an ingredient, or you can mix the oil yourself with pure aloe. Tea tree oil can be used as an alternative to benzoyl peroxide, but don't expect to see results as quickly, it usually takes longer, although it can be effective.

Tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternafolia, 5% gel) -- Applied to the skin, tea tree oil may help reduce bacteria, lessening inflammation and improving symptoms. One study compared the effectiveness of tea tree oil gel with benzoyl peroxide lotion in 119 people with mild-to-moderate acne. People in both groups improved, and the people using tea tree oil reported fewer side effects (including stinging, itching, burning, and dryness) than those using benzoyl peroxide. Although tea tree oil can kill the bacteria and reduce the inflamation associated with acne, like all home remedies it will provide some relief, but not a cure, and it won't work for everyone. To find an effective cure for acne it will have to be treated right where it starts, inside the body.

Treating Acne With Vinegar .....

It's hard to believe, but common vinegar is a good natural moisturiser, and good for treating your acne. But use it with caution, for with some skin types, too much can cause irritation. Just dab one pimple first to try it.

Dilute one teaspoon of vinegar with ten teaspoons of water and apply to the infected areas by dabbing gently with a cotton ball. Do this several times a day, but if you experience any irriation then stop immediately.

If your skin IS suitable for the vinegar treatment, then you've found one of the best acne home remedies around, and one of the most accessible.
