Adult acne is quite a common problem, considering many adults have been known to experience acne outbreaks when they were in their 30s or 40s.
Just the same as with teenage acne, adult acne is caused when the sebaceous glands produce more sebum than normal. Sebum is that nasty oily looking substance that clogs up the pores of the skin, resulting in inflamation and bacteria. And again, our hormones are responsible. If we are sensitive to male hormones (androgens) and female hormones (estrogen) or if there is an imbalance in these hormones, acne can result. Women are more prone to these imbalances when pregnant, or with the menopause.
Adult Acne TreatmentMany products have side effects so it's advisable to speak to your doctor before commencing any treatment, especially when treating adult acne. Avoid Corticosteroids, as these can trigger your acne. Use Aquanil or Cetaphil, which are two of the most gentle, non-abraisive cleansers.
Topical antibiotics help to fight the bacteria on the skin. These are usually prescribed, and can include Tetracycline and Clindamycin.
Benzoyl Peroxide is said to be good, although many people find it too harsh for the drier, adult skin, and experience irritation and burning. (Products containing Benzoyl Peroxide are banned in Europe)
Anything that contains Retinol is good for killing bacteria. Retinol based products can usually be bought over-the-counter.
Don't wash your face with cleansers any more than 2 or 3 times a day. For normal washing, use warm water, not hot, and don't scrub.
Quite simply, some things work, and some don't, so anything you buy or anything you are prescribed is going to be trial-and-error, and could turn out to be very expensive. It may pay off to have a look at some natural treatments with no side effects, and also some home remedies for acne. It may also be wise to have a look at your diet. Now, when I say diet, I'm not talking about cutting out all your favourite foods, it's really more a question of what you should add to your diet to help clear your acne. The fact is, eating the right foods can treat your acne where it starts, inside the body, fighting against bacteria and oily build-ups that clog the pores. See Acne and Diet for more information.
Adult Acne RemedyThere are many other things that can contribute to acne outbreaks, including stress, and hormonal imbalance. Combining the right diet and reducing stress levels has proved beneficial in treating adult acne. For the best adult acne remedy, I would suggest Clear Skin Max as a possible solution, especially if you have a busy lifestyle. But, if you can spare the time to go about finding a permanent cure for acne, then the Acne No More eBook is probably your best bet for treating adult acne.
